Prague, 11 January 2017 – For the fourth time, the operator’s employees raised funds within the Supporting Stories campaign, into which they themselves entered very strong stories of their friends, neighbours, acquaintances and even their family members. As compared with the first edition, the number of those supported more than tripled – a total of 35 breath-taking stories about people who bravely face adversity were proposed. The subjects of these stories included 21 children and 14 adults who are seriously ill, were born disabled or suffered a severe injury. The employees raised CZK 715,950. The operator then matched that amount, bringing the total raised within the campaign to CZK 1,431,900.
“There is nothing better than rapid, precisely targeted assistance when the employees themselves influence to whom and for what purpose the funds will be donated. We are happy that colleagues across the company are not indifferent to the plight of others; on the contrary, they have paid increased attention to their surroundings and set an example for others,” says Eva Karasová, Social Responsibility Manager at T-Mobile.
This year, the average contribution from each employee was CZK 1,657 and it was often divided among several stories. All employees of the company can help someone close to them who is in need; all they need to do is describe the situation of the person in need in the fundraising application and contribute the first CZK 1,000. Over the course of two weeks, other colleagues add financial amounts of their choice to individual stories. T-Mobile then matches the contributions donated by the employees.
The money raised will be used for different purposes, usually as a contribution for special medical treatment, demanding rehabilitation, stays at health resorts, medical aids and assistance, purchase of a wheelchair or structural modifications of the recipient’s home. This is often a dream come true for the recipients – e.g., dancing lessons for the disabled, special sports equipment for a Paralympic athlete, a tandem bike for a blind person and accompaniment to social events or special scooter for a boy who had his leg amputated.
This year’s Supporting Stories fundraising campaign was organised for the first time within Giving Tuesday, a global day of volunteering and philanthropy, in which T-Mobile employees got involved also through other activities, such as volunteering in various non-profit organisations, organising the collecting of clothes the funds raised within which were used for gerontopsychiatric services at the Sue Ryder Home and the Cup of Good Deeds (Šálek dobrého skutku) aimed at supporting the volunteer organisation Popálky and, more specifically, consultations for children and young people who have suffered severe burns.
