In the first nine months of this year, T-Mobile Czech Republic focused on monetizing mobile data, bringing new solutions to the market. The operator broadened its LTE potential, which covered 70% of the area as of September 30, by testing or introducing new technological features in its network (4x4 MIMO – March, Single RAN – September). Furthermore, it introduced the first Voice over LTE service (May) and announced its plans and projects in Internet of Things sector (a special IoT network – April, October, smart equipment offered – October). T-Mobile’s integrated operator strategy is proving effective: compared to the same period last year, its total revenues have increased by 11.6 percent. The company’s customer base has remained stable compared to the previous year, with the mobile customer base reaching almost 6 million. In the mobile sector, a steep growth in data consumption and a decrease in the average monthly revenue per user can be considered the most visible long-term trends.
“Our key priorities remain in two areas: to offer most reliable mobile services with a special focus on speed data and to convince B2B customers we are a flexible, well-rounded provider which can fulfill all their communication needs,” says Milan Vašina, Managing Director at T-Mobile Czech Republic.
Customers
As of September 30, 2015, the number of T-Mobile´s mobile customers stayed at almost 6 million. More than 3.5 million customers (59% of the customer base) were using one of the contract tariff plans, 2.4 million opted for a prepaid service. The average monthly churn rate (i.e. the share of customers who decided to stop using the operator’s services) slightly increased y/y to 1.5%.

T-Mobile’s mobile customers called an average of 155 minutes per month during the first three quarters of this year, up 3.3% compared with the previous year. Consumption grew slightly even in the number of text messages, but data remained the fastest growing area: the volume of transmitted data increased by 55.9% compared with the same period of the previous year, reaching 11,687 terabytes.
Financial indicators
The first nine months proved a slowdown in the decrease of the telecommunication market. T-Mobile has been partially compensating declining mobile service revenues without reducing investments in fast LTE roll-out. Total revenues from mobile and fixed-line services reached CZK 19.9 billion, with revenues from mobile services totaling CZK 13.6 billion. The average monthly revenue per user (ARPU) decreased year-on-year by 4.5% to CZK 253. Adoption and use of data services have been growing dramatically: the trend is mirrored in the share of non-voice services in ARPU from mobile services, which increased year-on-year by 7 percentage points to the record level of 44%.
