Prague, 25 December 2013 – T-Mobile customers were very active this year – Christmas Eve traffic rose in all parameters. Overall traffic in the operator's network went up by approximately 14.5%, again mainly thanks to an increase in data transmissions. The total number of calls grew as well, by nearly 9.5% to approximately 17.8 million. People still most commonly choose a text message for their Christmas wishes: the SMS centre processed more than 29 million SMS this year, a year-on-year increase by approximately 11%. We again saw a significant increase in multimedia messages this year – the MMS centre received 403,704 MMS, which is approximately 20% more than last year. As compared with the previous year, overall data traffic went up by 88.3%.
In 2013, T-Mobile customers called their family and friends more than in previous years. The total number of incoming and outgoing calls reached nearly 17.8 million, which is approximately 9.5% more than in 2012. Distribution of calls in time remains the same as in previous years: traditionally, the heaviest voice traffic was between 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., when nearly 1.8 million calls were made. Increased traffic was also recorded between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., when people called one another to share their impressions of their Christmas presents.
The total number of text messages processed by the T-Mobile SMS centre on Christmas Eve increased after three years by nearly 11%, thus exceeding 29 million. The busiest SMS hour was again between 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m., when the SMS centre processed more than 2.7 million messages. During the busiest quarter of an hour from 12:45 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., 690,000 messages were processed.
Multimedia messages (MMS) again saw an increase this year: their number reached nearly 404,000, which is approximately 20% more in the previous year. This year, the heaviest MMS traffic was between 12:15 p.m. and 1:15 p.m. More than 36,000 multimedia messages sent via mobile handsets, external applications and the internet were processed by the MMS centre during this hour. The multimedia-message peak was recorded between 12:30 p.m. and 12:45 p.m., when the MMS centre received nearly 9,500 messages.
