TWIST Is the First Pre-paid Service Allowing W@P Applications

  • As first users of pre-paid services in the world, all owners of Paegas Twist cards can use services based on the WAP standard
  • Paegas Twist allows not only voice, but also data and fax services
  • Twist offers connection to the Internet without lump sum fees, only for the price for connection

All owners of the Paegas Twist pre-paid cards can use services based on the Wireless Application Protocol technology (WAP). This is allowed by a free of charge activation of data and fax calls, which RadioMobil offers to the users of pre-paid services. The operator of the Paegas services hence became the first in the Czech Republic and even in the world to make data and fax calls accessible for pre-paid card users and to offer them the possibility to use WAP. "We belong among the leading world operators, which are on the top of development of services based on newest technologies. Therefore our customers are also among the first in the world to have the possibility to use the most modern technologies. We prove this attitude many times in the past and WAP is no exception. The CeBIT trade fair, which ended in Hannover a week ago, has shown that for the GSM world WAP is something similar to what web became for the Internet," the marketing director of the RadioMobil company Robert Chvátal said, and went on: " We believe that our activities will experience a great success because among the users of the Paegas Twist services there is a high proportion of young people greedy of interesting services and there is no doubt that WAP belongs among those."

Present owners of Paegas Twist cards who are interested in using data and fax transmissions can activate them for free at the Paegas info line (4603 - free from a Paegas - or 0603-604 605). Apart from access to WAP applications, the possibility to use the Internet via Paegas service opens to them this way. It is an Internet connection without a lump sum fee, which has been offered by RadioMobil for a longer time in cooperation with PVT and Video On Line, where the user pays only for connection according to the rates for calls within the network. "We were the first company on the Czech market to offer free Internet access, only for the price for connection. Now owners of the pre-paid Paegas Twist cards can use it, too," the gazetteer of the RadioMobil Company Tereza Kakosová said, and added: "RadioMobil became the first operator that made data and fax services accessible to mass market. We believe this step will stimulate further development of services based on the WAP technology, for which experts forecast such a development as the Internet experienced with the coming of web pages." The price of data connection when using the Paegas WAP service as a part of the pre-paid service costs CZK 2.80 / min (incl. VAT).

As the first operator RadioMobil offers a pre-paid set with a WAP phone Motorola Timeport P7389 to customers. During several following weeks Paegas will introduce a whole range of more phones supporting WAP in all price categories. Practically all the new mobile phones gradually unveiled by individual producers provide for using services based on WAP.

RadioMobil Incorporated is the operator of the GSM network called Paegas, which today covers over 99 % of the Czech population and 99.8 % of first-class roads. Customers can use a Paegas GSM mobile phone in networks of 169 operators from almost 80 countries of the whole world. At the end of 1999, more than 875 thousand customers used the services of the Paegas GSM network, into which RadioMobil invested 6 billion crowns only during 1999, a billion more than the other operator. Paegas hence became the leading operator on the Czech market by the number of new activations when it acquired more than 500 000 new customers in 1999 as the first in history of the Czech mobile market.
