The Klubíčko childcare center helps 60 families with disabled children

• Professionalized and extended services for families with disabled children at the center
• Rehabilitation and treatment supplemented by a child-integration program

Prague, 18 March 2008 - Thanks to project managers Miroslava Ondová and Radka Hubáčková and their Klubíčko childcare center there are now many more activities that families with disabled children in and around Litvínov can be involved in.

Klubíčko has been active in Litvínov since 2004, when it was founded by the civic association Porozumění (Understanding). "The activities of the Klubíčko childcare center are aimed at helping disabled children and their parents. Its long-term and intensive assistance to both of these groups has brought some excellent results," says Martina Kemrová, Senior Manager of Corporate Communication at T-­Mobile.

The Klubíčko center organizes educational and entertaining activities for families of children with various kinds of severe disabilities. Its visitors include children with sensory or motor disabilities as well as those with mental disabilities. Klubíčko offers not only occasional babysitting, interest clubs and practical workshops, but also performs music and canine therapy and is starting to provide hippotherapy treatment. It frequently organizes one-week camps and stays for children and their parents, weekend tours, and talks with health specialists; the center managed to organize well over twenty such events in the last year alone. The Klubíčko childcare center is regularly visited by sixty families. "The center's premises are open to public, which results in disabled children meeting and collaborating with healthy kids and thus integrating into the mainstream," says Miroslava Ondová, chairperson of the Porozumění association and Klubíčko's manager.

The association's activities received support from the T-Mobile Fund, specifically from the part of the fund set aside for supporting projects recommended by T-Mobile employees. The total contribution that the Porozumění association received from T-­Mobile amounted to CZK 96,000. "Thanks to contributions by our sponsors and various foundations, we managed to equip our center with special equipment such as a touchscreen monitor for our PC, massage table and pottery kiln. The financial support is also helping us to gradually professionalize our staff as well as our services," says Miroslava Ondová, adding: "Nevertheless, our volunteer base is still indispensable for the center's activities."

One of the biggest successes the center has had was last year's integration of five disabled children, attendees of Klubíčko, into standard pre-schools and elementary schools. "The parents are convinced that their children's regular attendance at our childcare center also contributed to their success story," adds Ondová.
