The indoor stadium (Sportovní hala) at Pragues Exhibition Grounds (VýstavištÄ?) is to be named Paegas Arena

  • Paegas will support the modernisation of this unique sports and cultural venue
  • Visitors to Paegas Arena will be able to follow sporting action or social events in comfort with the aid of the very latest modern technology

The indoor stadium (Sportovní hala) at Pragues Exhibition Grounds (VýstavištÄ?) is changing its name to Paegas Arena since RadioMobil, the operator of the Paegas GSM mobile telephone network, is supporting the reconstruction of the stadium, one of the most important sporting and cultural venues in Prague. As well as a wide variety of important sporting contests, in recent years the stadium has played host to rock bands, including the Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin, and to concert performances by singers such as Luciano Pavarotti and Placido Domingo.

As a result of an agreement between RadioMobil and the hockey club, HC Sparta Praha - which has a long-term lease on the hitherto named Sportovní hala from the City of Prague - a unique project, and the first of its kind, has emerged, whereby the stadium will carry the name of its sponsor.

"Abroad, it is a commonplace occurrence for a venue of this kind to be named after a sponsor, very often one of the leading and strongest companies in the given locality," said Tereza Kakosová, press spokeswoman for RadioMobil a.s. "Paegas has traditionally been linked with a whole range of leading sporting and cultural events from its very beginning. By its participation in this project, Paegas wants to express its support for the emergence of a first-class setting for such events to take place. After the reconstruction, which is beginning right now, Paegas Arena will easily bear comparison with the very best stadiums in the most developed European countries."

The general public has already become accustomed to identifying RadioMobil as a company at the leading edge of the telecommunications field. Fittingly, the reconstruction will focus not only on creating a comfortable and attractive venue for the staging of events, but also on the development of technical capacity, a modern audio-visual system, large screens and a wealth of other technological improvements - to ensure that the experience of watching each and every event at Paegas Arena will be an unforgettable one.

Even while the stadium is awaiting reconstruction, RadioMobil customers will feel the first benefits from the emergence of Paegas Arena in the next few days. At the entrance to the next two European Hockey League matches, all spectators who show via the display of their mobile telephones that they are Paegas customers will be granted free entry. The matches in question are against HIFK HELSINKY, which will be played on Tuesday 23 November at 5.30 p.m., and the match featuring BRYNĂ"S IF GĂ"VLE, a contest to which Paegas customers are invited at the same time on Tuesday 7 December 1999.

RadioMobil a.s. is the operator of the GSM network called Paegas. The Paegas GSM network now covers 98% of the Czech Republic. Customers can now take their Paegas GSM mobile telephones to 75 different countries around the world and use roaming services via 155 operators. At the end of October, there were more than 700,000 customers of the Paegas GSM network.
