The operator will cover 93% of the Czech population with fast 3G and LTE internet by the end of the year
T-Mobile is the first operator to have launched a full-fledged LTE network in the 800 MHz frequency
Ninety-four percent of Czech roads and motorways are planned to be covered with fast internet by the end of the year
Prague, 5 May 2014 – T-Mobile’s fast mobile 3G and 4G internet coverage will be available to 93% of the Czech Republic’s population and 80% of the country’s territory by the end of 2014. The operator’s LTE network alone will be rolled out to cover 51% of the population and 73% of the territory. T-Mobile is the first operator to have launched a full-fledged LTE network in the 800 MHz frequency obtained at auction, which will enable better coverage inside buildings.
The operator wants to focus on maximum possible nationwide coverage with the LTE network so that data services can be used in the largest possible area of the Czech Republic, including less densely populated areas. Another one of T-Mobile’s objectives is to increase the availability of fast internet on roads and motorways, whereas outdoor coverage with the 3G and LTE networks should reach 94% by the end of this year.
“One of the main advantages of fast mobile internet is the possibility of flexible internet access while travelling,” says Milan Hába, Vice President Category and Products at T-Mobile. “We have therefore decided to accommodate the needs of our customers as much as possible and focus on covering, among other things, the country’s main roads.” adds Milan Hába.
T-Mobile wants to offer the LTE network primarily to customers in rural areas and smaller towns that are out of the 3G network’s reach. The download and upload speeds of the operator’s mobile LTE internet in rural areas will be up to 75 Mbps and 25 Mbps, respectively.
T-Mobile is the first operator in the Czech Republic to have launched full-fledged fastest mobile internet in the 800 MHz frequency obtained at auction in a part of the Plzeň-South district of the Plzeň region. This step marked the beginning of the announced rollout of this technology in rural areas of the Czech Republic. In accordance with the conditions set by the Czech Telecommunications Office, the LTE network will first be available during a two-month trial operation. Residents of Roupov, Svárkov, Dolce, Plevňov and many other communities in the Plzeň-South district will thus be able to enjoy the best mobile-internet technology with the same speeds as those provided by the LTE network in Prague by the end of May of this year at the latest.
By the end of October 2014, T-Mobile will roll out its proprietary LTE network in Prague. In June, the operator will launch the fastest mobile internet in the centre of the Czech Republic’s capital, followed by Prague’s boroughs of Vysočany, Černý most, Horní Počernice, Letňany, Střížkov, Prosek and Ďáblice in July and Kobylisy, Bohnice, Čimice and Holešovice in August. During September and October, the entire western part of Prague, namely Suchdol, Dejvice, Střešovice, Hradčany, Břevnov, Motol, Radlice, Stodůlky, Zličín, Barandov, Chuchle, Radotín and Zbraslav, will be covered with the LTE network.
“Customers can also use voice services without any problems in our LTE network. We were the first operator in the Czech Republic to offer this possibility to them,” reminds Vladimír Klein, Technology Director at T-Mobile.
The operator has already invested nearly CZK 4 billion in LTE and is planning to invest another CZK 13 billion over the coming years.
