Pilot operation has been launched in Prague's Roztyly district and will be extended to Mladá Boleslav in January
NB-IoT will strengthen T-Mobile's competencies in the area of the Internet of Things
The operator remains the technology partner and integrator of the SIGFOX IoT network
T-Mobile has launched pilot operation of the NB-IoT network for the Internet of Things (IoT) in the vicinity of its headquarters in Prague's Roztyly district. In January 2018, the pilot operation will be expanded to cover also Mladá Boleslav. This is not T-Mobile's first step in this area: for the past two years, the company has been the technology partner and integrator of the SIGFOX IoT network covering the entire Czech Republic. The operator has also been strengthening its competencies in the area of the Internet of Things. Following termination and evaluation of the trial operation of NB-IoT, T-Mobile plans to start preparations for the nationwide commercial deployment of this technology.
"We would like to expand our Internet of Things portfolio by incorporating NB-IoT technology, which can be easily deployed on our LTE transmitters by means of a software update, into the existing SIGFOX network," says Ľubor Žatko, Network Development and Delivery at T-Mobile, adding: "We believe that these two technologies will effectively complement one another."
The major advantages of NB-IoT include high in-building signal penetration, low prices of terminal devices and low energy consumption, which enables operation of a large number of devices simultaneously. The technology can be used, for example, to measure electricity and gas consumption, for parking systems and monitoring devices with a broad range of applications in many areas (from local government, through agriculture to healthcare services). The NB-IoT network uses a licensed spectrum and features the same security level as LTE. Some time ago, T-Mobile's parent company – Deutsche Telekom – also pledged to support this standard.
T-Mobile Czech Republic, a member of the international telecommunications group Deutsche Telekom, has almost 6.2 million customers, the number-one operator in the Czech market. T-Mobile is an integrated operator: in addition to telecommunications services, it offers comprehensive ICT solutions not only for companies, but also for other organizations and individuals. It provides outstanding services in the high-speed network, which was proved repeatedly by benchmark testing performed by umlaut (former P3) with Best-in-Test seal.
T-Mobile Czech Republic places emphasis on taking a responsible approach to the environment and society. It adheres to fair business practices, helps beneficial applications and services to see the light of day, supports non-profit organizations, small businesses and individuals, and lends a helping hand whenever crisis situations arise. The company’s employees serve as volunteers in many places across the entire Czech Republic.
