Prague, 26 October 2011 – T-Mobile is the first operator in the Czech Republic to offer exclusively to its customers the most advanced voice technology – HD Voice. The service uses a wider frequency band, enabling higher-fidelity and comprehensible voice transmission with significantly reduced ambient noise. The improved service can be used throughout the operator's 3G network, which is now available to more than 65% of the population of the Czech Republic.
“Our long-term objective is to offer to our customers the best services using the most advanced technologies,” says Frank Meywerk, Technology Director at T-Mobile, adding: “HD Voice brings significantly improved quality of voice transmission in mobile communication and I am glad that we are the first operator in the Czech Republic to introduce this technology, once again proving our leading edge position.”
To deliver better voice quality, HD Voice uses WB-AMR (WideBand Adaptive MultiRate compression) codec, which will replace the current NB-AMR (NarrowBand Adaptive MultiRate compression) codec in the 3G network. While NB-AMR transmits voice in frequencies of 300 – 3,400 Hz, the new WB-AMR is able to do so in the 50 – 7,000 Hz band, which results in more natural sound and better clarity of voice transmissions. Another advantage of the new technology is ambient-noise reduction, allowing callers to hear each other more clearly than before.
The improved quality of calls can be used throughout T-Mobile's 3G network (except for the part shared with Telefónica), which is currently available to more than 65% of the population of the Czech Republic. It is also necessary that both the calling and called parties have HD Voice-enabled handsets. T-Mobile's portfolio currently includes four such devices: Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, Xperia Arc, Xperia Ray and Xperia Mini Pro. During November, the offer will be expanded with Sony Ericsson Xperia Active, Xperia Arc S and Nokia 500. Until the end of the year, the offer of HD Voice-enabled mobile telephones should be further extended to include Nokia N8, E6, E7 and 700 handsets.
