T-Mobile introduces the fastest mobile internet access

• HSPA+ 42 available in selected cities from 16 April
• Theoretical download speeds of up to 42 Mbps

Prague, 14 March 2012 – T-Mobile is the first operator in the Czech Republic to offer its customers HSPA+ 42 technology in its 3G network, which allows downloading data at speeds of up to 42 Mbps. Following a successful trial operation at the end of last year, the fastest mobile internet access will be available initially to the residents of Zlín and Mladá Boleslav from 16 April. HSPA+ 42 will then be made available in other selected locations later this year. 

“We are fulfilling our promise we made at the end of last year and will start offering the fastest mobile internet access to our customers within a month,” says Frank Meywerk, Technology Director at T-Mobile, adding: “The fastest network will be available from T-Mobile – this is the rule we want to stick to also in future.” 

T-Mobile is the first and so far only operator in the Czech Republic to offer HSPA+ technology enabling download speeds of up to 21 Mbps throughout its 3G network. The maximum speed limit is now being doubled and T-Mobile’s 3G network will enable data downloading at speeds of up to 42 Mbps. This will allow customers to browse the web at real speeds of 25-30 Mbps. The necessary prerequisite for doubling the download speed is sufficient data capacity between the transceiver stations and the backbone network. 

The fastest mobile internet experience will be initially available to customers in Mladá Boleslav and Zlín from 16 April, followed by Prague 4, including T-Mobile’s headquarters in the Roztyly district, by the end of April. By the end of the third quarter, the fastest mobile internet coverage will be extended to Brno, České Budějovice and Liberec. HSPA+ 42 technology will then be made available elsewhere depending on capacity requirements. 

Beginning 16 April, the first HSPA+ 42-enabled device will be on sale: the Huawei E372 USB modem, allowing customers to make full use of all the possibilities offered by the new technology. Existing customers can purchase the modem for prices starting at CZK 499 incl. VAT together with activation of the Internet na cesty Premium plan for two years. Prices of the device for new customers start at CZK 999 incl. VAT. The basic unsubsidised price is CZK 3,499 incl. VAT.
