Prague, Barcelona (MWC), 23 February 2016 – Deutsche Telekom released information at the Mobile World Congress about a project in the area of car connectivity with mobile devices. This project is being managed and tested for the whole Deutsche Telekom Group by T-Mobile Czech Republic in partnership with the Canadian start-up Mojio. T-Mobile intends to offer the first smart-car solution in the Czech Republic this year.
“This smart solution will make drivers’ lives easier, safer and more comfortable,” says Tomáš Ryšavý, Vice President B2C and Product Marketing at T-Mobile, adding: “The activity in the area of smart cars is part of our IoT strategy that we started fulfilling last year. Our launch partner, Mojio, is a winner of many contests and has held more connected-car hackathons than any other player in the market.”
“The Mojio connected-car platform is hardware agnostic and works with multiple Made For Mojio certified OBD devices, which enables connected-car services in most car brands sold in Europe,” says Kenny Hawk, Mojio’s CEO.
Older car models can very easily be transformed into smart cars if they are equipped with an On-Board-Diagnostics (OBD) connector. OBD connectors are installed in all cars manufactured at least since 2001, so the solution will be accessible to the majority of car owners. OBD connectors are usually located below or next to the steering wheel. A small device approximately half the size of a deck of cards and with a SIM card inserted is very easily connected to the OBD port. The device communicates with the Mojio cloud over a secure encrypted wireless connection. Drivers access their car data via a growing suite of iOS and Android apps.
The applications provide information about the technical condition of the respective car by means of rapid vehicle diagnostics – they show the fluid levels, remind the driver of regular maintenance intervals and mandatory technical inspection, notify the driver if there is a malfunction in the car, keep journey logs, evaluate economical driving, can navigate the car, help find free paid and unpaid parking and can also be used as a basic car security feature, in that they inform the user if the car is bumped, towed or otherwise moving by means of an alert message in the application. The applications also offer a wide range of other benefits. All applications will be available for customers in Czech.
The operator will provide more detailed information about the project in the coming months.
