Prague, 15 May 2003 - Entirely in line with the results of T-Mobile International, T-Mobile Czech Republic a.s. recorded its financial and operating results for the first quarter of this year. The total revenues increased, compared to the same period of the last year, by 10% from CZK 5.2 billion to CZK 5.7 billion. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) recorded a 16% increase year-on-year: While EBITDA amounted to CZK 2.4 billion in the first quarter of 2002, it reached CZK 2.8 billion in the first three months of this year. Net profit increased to CZK 1 billion, which is by 20% more than as of 31 March last year. ARPU also grew, increasing by 3% year-on-year to CZK 472. (The financial results are stated in accordance with the German accounting standards.)
"I am satisfied with the results for the first three months of this year, moreover, I can state that, on the whole, they even exceeded our expectations. The growth in all significant financial indicators is a sign of efficient management and synergy effects within the T-Mobile International Group," says Otakar Král, Executive Vice President Finance of T-Mobile Czech Republic a.s., adding: "The strategy of the entire group places emphasis, inter alia, on increasing the proportion of contract customers. The first quarter was also successful in this respect."
The number of contract customers increased by 48 percent year-on-year. The overall subscriber base grew by 17% - T-Mobile registered 3,550 thousand customers as of 31 March. Success was registered in the business segment. Companies such as Unipetrol, a.s.; GECO TABAK, a.s.; Sekyra Group, a.s.; Getronics Czech Republic, s.r.o. became important customers of T-Mobile in the first quarter. Companies such as Škoda Auto, a.s.; SkyNet, a.s.; Siemens, s.r.o.; Logica, s.r.o.; Ernst & Young, k.s.; and Praga Engineering, s.r.o. had already been using T-Mobile services and they extended their contracts in the past few months.
T-Mobile also recorded an increase in the number of minutes used and SMS sent compared to the first quarter of 2002. In the first three months of this year, the usage in the T-Mobile network reached 807 million minutes, which is by 19% more compared to the same period of the previous year. The number of SMS sent increased by almost 27%, with T-Mobile customers sending 413 million text messages as of 31 March this year.
