The operator will start covering rural areas with the LTE network
The maximum LTE speeds in Mladá Boleslav will increase to 150/50 Mbps
LTE coverage in Prague will be completed by the end of October, while HSPA42+ will also be strengthened in the Czech capital
Prague, 24 February 2014 – T-Mobile is expanding and improving the quality of the coverage with its fast mobile networks. The operator will soon start covering rural areas with the LTE network and will increase the maximum download and upload speeds of LTE technology in Mladá Boleslav to 150 Mbps and 50 Mbps, respectively. By this October, the fastest mobile internet from T-Mobile will cover all of Prague, while the fast HSPA42+ network will also be strengthened in the Czech capital.
“We want to offer the fastest mobile LTE internet experience to as many customers as possible within the shortest time possible,” says Milan Hába, Vice President Category and Products at T-Mobile, adding. “However, we haven’t forgotten about users of handsets that don’t support LTE. For this reason, we will double the number of HSPA42+ fast network transmitters in the Czech capital by the end of the year.”
On Friday, 21 February, T-Mobile received Czech Telecommunication Office’s decision on the allocation of frequencies obtained at the frequency auction. Today, the operator waived its right to an appeal and the allocation thus became legally effective. As soon as all necessary licences are issued, which the CTO is required by law to do within one month, the operator will start covering the rural areas of the Czech Republic. It will also increase the maximum download and upload LTE speeds in Mladá Boleslav from 100/37.5 Mbps to 150/50 Mbps. T-Mobile is planning to complete the nationwide coverage with LTE earlier than the date imposed by the auction conditions.
The operator is also continuing with the LTE rollout in Prague, which will be completed by October of this year. Additionally, T-Mobile is planning to launch a pilot project of Voice over LTE (VoLTE) technology, which will allow making calls directly in the LTE network without the need of switching to the “lower” 2G/3G networks. VoLTE will help to significantly reduce the time for connecting calls and improve the quality of voice transmission to a level higher than that of the current HD Voice technology.
T-Mobile’s LTE network currently covers more than half of the Czech capital’s population and the city of Mladá Boleslav. It can be used by all of the operator’s customers who have an activated plan containing data, are in an area covered with the technology and have an LTE-enabled device (there are currently 23 such devices, including the iPhone and the iPad). This network is now used by more than 18,000 of the operator’s customers. T-Mobile has already invested CZK 1.2 billion in LTE, with an additional CZK 13 billion to be invested in the coming years. The operator paid CZK 2.6 billion for the frequencies obtained at the frequency auction.
