RadioMobil Invests Billions into Its Network Every Year

  • coverage exceeded 99 % of the population and even 99.8 % of all E-class roads last year
  • since last year, RadioMobil has been preparing also transmitters in the range 1800 MHz
  • last year, investments into building of the Paegas GSM network were highest in almost four years of existence of the RadioMobil Company

Although before the end of the year RadioMobil succeeded in covering almost 99 percent of the population of the CR and even 99.8 percent of the E-type roads by the GSM Paegas network signal, the building of infrastructure further continues. During the year 2000 the total number of transmitters is going to grow by another more than 50 percent. "The building of the network is not over for us when we reach a certain degree of coverage, because it is still necessary to increase capacity and implement new technologies. Since the commencement of operation of the GSM Paegas network almost four years ago, we increased the number of newly activated transmitters every year and this year wont be an exception, since we are going to activate the highest number of transmitters ever in the existence of the Company," said Tereza Kakosová, the gazetteer of the RadioMobil Company.

For last year, a record number of more than 500 thousands customers decided for Paegas services, and the successful first weeks of 2000 indicate that the tempo of last year continues this year as well. The GSM Paegas network therefore continuously increases capacity and improves coverage in buildings at the same time. Last year, RadioMobil started building transmitters with the GSM 1800 MHz technology so that it can, according to the license of the Czech Telecommunications Office, commence operation in this frequency range as well (apart from that it uses the 900 MHz frequency range from the very beginning of its activities). Using two frequency ranges allows a more effective network planning. Apart from makrocells the Paegas network uses also microcells for coverage improvement and increase in capacity, and pikocells that are intended for coverage of specific areas especially inside buildings. "The combination of transmitters ensuring planispheric coverage and microcells with pikocells allows us to plan the coverage of concrete areas especially in cities with greater accent on quality and capacity," Tereza Kakosová specified.

Only for last year, the RadioMobil Company invested six billion crowns, majority of which went into the development of infrastructure. "It is the largest investment of the RadioMobil Company in almost four years of its existence on the Czech market and one of the largest investments of 1999 in the CR," Tereza Kakosová commented.

A significant increase in capacity is important also for operation commencement of services based on the GPRS technology, which should take place in the second half of the year and which will allow a direct mobile connection to the Internet to adequately equipped users. Using the Synthesized Frequency Hopping (SFH) technology also helps to increase the network capacity and improvement in quality of calls at the same time, "From the beginning, the Paegas GSM network is the most dynamically growing infrastructure of mobile communication in the CR. Not only increasing the number of new transmitters, but primarily implementing the newest technologies with a steady accent on the transmission quality are concerned," Tereza Kakosová added.

RadioMobil Incorporated is the operator of the GSM network called Paegas, which nowadays covers almost 99 % of the Czech population and 99.8 % of the E-class roads. Customers can use the Paegas GSM mobile phone in networks of 168 operators from almost 80 countries of the whole world. Only in 1999 RadioMobil introduced more than 20 services in its network and again prove its exceptional position as the leading Czech telecommunication innovator. At the end of 1999, more than 875 thousand customers used the GSM Paegas network, into which RadioMobil invested 6 billion crowns, which is more than the other operator. Having acquired more than 500 000 new customers as the first in history of the Czech mobile market, Paegas hence became the leading operator on the Czech market by the number of new activations.
