Paegas TWIST becomes first system to successfully transmit SMS

Beginning Monday, January 18, owners of Paegas TWIST prepaid SIM cards will be able to transmit SMS short text messages from their mobile telephones. "Research shows that our customers are the most active senders and receivers of SMS messages, with over 50 percent of them using SMS regularly, and that' why we've decided to extend the benefits of using the technology to owners of Paegas TWIST prepaid cards," said RadioMobil marketing director Robert Chvátal at a recent press conference.

The Paegas GSM network thus became one of the first GSM networks in the world to enable its prepaying customers to send short text messages. "We've also increased the capacity of our SMS center, so we're fully prepared for a large jump in SMS transmissions. The end of 1998 provided our technology with another good test, as we registered our largest number of text transmissions to date on New Year's Eve without any problems whatsoever," noted RadioMobil press spokeswoman Tereza Kakosová.

In addition to being able to send short text messages, Paegas TWIST card owners can now utilize Paegas Info services, thus gaining access to a wide range of information resources, from weather forecasts to news wire reports, train and bus schedules, movie listings and public commercial databases. They can also take advantage of Paegas E-mail to send faxes and messages to pagers and emails, as well as to browse the Internet directly from the display of their mobile phones.

"Activation of SMS transmission capabilities for TWIST users was preceded by lengthy testing and market research. This way we can be certain that we're offering customers a product which expands their communications options even further and which enables them to utilize a number of other services, such as Paegas Info," Chvátal added.

Until now, Paegas TWIST users could receive short text messages only from other mobile users with SMS capabilities or from Paegas Internet pages (www.paegas.cz). They could also receive emails and messages sent to a custom email address (telephone number@sms.paegas.cz) activated automatically for all Paegas customers.
