Paegas Is the First GSM Network Offering Data and Fax for Free to All Customers

  • All new customers will have data and fax services automatically activated
  • Operators of Paegas Info-lines will carry out activation of data and fax services for free
  • All users of common rate plans have the possibility to connect to the Internet free of charge using the Internet via Paegas service, they pay only for connection
  • Free of charge activation of data services will support the development of Paegas WAP services

All new customers who decide for one of the common rate plans have data and fax services automatically activated from 8 March, 2000. Existing customers who have not used data and fax on their mobile phone so far can ask for them and they will get them for free as well. Like this, they will save CZK 1000 for activation and up to CZK 200 monthly lump sum fee. Until now, only an owner of the highest rate plan Paegas 300 (and the older Diamant) got data and fax services. "Among our customers there are many experienced GSM users who will certainly welcome this activity. They will be able to use easily not only voice, but also data communication and receiving and sending faxes via a mobile phone. It is a similar step as when we offered right from the beginning the possibility to send SMS short text messages without an activation and lump sum fee as the first operator in the CR, and when we as one of the first in the world allowed owners of pre-paid cards to send SMS," the gazetteer of the RadioMobil Company Tereza Kakosová specified.

Those interested in additional activation of data and fax services just need to call the Paegas Info line (4603 - free from a Paegas - or 0603-604 605), where operators activate the service. At the same time, every owner of a Paegas mobile phone can use the Internet via Paegas service. It is an Internet connection without a lump sum fee, which has been offered by RadioMobil for a longer time in cooperation with PVT and Video On Line, where the user pays only for connection according to the rates for calls within the network. "We were the first company on the Czech market to offer free Internet access, only for the price of connection. Owners of the rate plan Paegas 300 (or the older Diamant) have furthermore 100 minutes of connection for the Internet via Paegas service for free," Tereza Kakosová said. Owners of phones supporting the Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) standard will also use the data connection, since WAP needs a data channel to work. "We believe this step will stimulate further development of services based on the WAP technology, for which experts forecast such a development as the Internet experienced with the coming of web pages," Tereza Kakosová added. The price of data connection when using the Paegas WAP service costs CZK 2 / min.

RadioMobil Incorporated is the operator of the GSM network called Paegas, which today covers over 99 % of the Czech population and 99.8 % of first-class roads. Customers can use a Paegas GSM mobile phone in networks of 169 operators from almost 80 countries of the whole world. At the end of 1999, more than 875 thousand customers used the services of the Paegas GSM network, into which RadioMobil invested 6 billion crowns only during 1999, a billion more than the other operator. Paegas hence became the leading operator on the Czech market by the number of new activations when it acquired more than 500 000 new customers in 1999 as the first in history of the Czech mobile market.
