The RadioMobil Company, the Paegas GSM mobile phone network operator, decided to respond to the shortage of computer equipment in schools and childcare institutions. Within three years it will donate more than 2000 personal computers and notebooks equipped with Microsoft software into this area, and children can start working on the first 130 computers already at the beginning of April. "Roughly three quarters of elementary schools and more than a half of secondary schools lack satisfactory computer equipment," the gazetteer of the RadioMobil Company Tereza Kakosová said. "We are aware that we cannot help everyone, but at least somewhere we can significantly decrease the current average number of sixty pupils to one computer." The whole project called "We Support Your Future" will have a nation-wide impact and computers from the RadioMobil Company will appear especially in institutions outside of Prague, where the situation concerning this kind of equipment is the most critical.
"Computers and internet access play an increasingly bigger and more important part in education," the Minister of Education Eduard Zeman says. "Like the countries of the European Union, the Czech Republic is presently trying to ensure internet connection for schools of all levels until 2001. That is why we are thankful to all companies, which are willing to help in this area effectively."
The project "We Support Your Future" did not come into existence by coincidence. "People got used to perceiving RadioMobil as an innovator and pioneer of future technologies," Tereza Kakosová said. "However, this role is also obliging in all aspects, and so we are very pleased to be able to contribute to extending the most modern technologies into education. For computers and their connection to the internet can play even a bigger part in the future than until now, and if young people want to be successful, they have to have access to them since their very young age."
"The fact that the Microsoft company is a partner of the project "We Support Your Future" is not surprising," the managing director of the Microsoft company in CR Jan MĂĽhlfeit says, "the general public knows us not only as a producer of the most modern technologies, but also as a many years supporter of the Czech education. All schools that want to prepare their students/pupils for a life in a modern, information society, have taken advantage of the opportunity to buy our products with huge reductions."
