Paegas becomes main partner to Mobile of the Year survey

RadioMobil has become the main partner to the Mobile of the Year '98 survey, announced for the second year by the Internet telecommunications news service Mobile Server. While 3,800 respondents took part in last year's survey, a record 17,180 turned out this year, to the surprise of organizers. "It is evidence of the continually greater interest in mobile communications," said Tereza Kakosová, a spokeswoman for the Paegas GSM network. "We were also very pleased to discover that the opinions of those voting matched the business strategies of our company. Before the survey even began, RadioMobil had already gone ahead and included most of the telephones ranked at the top in its offering of specially priced phones, and it spent all of 1998 promoting and boosting them through advertisements," Kakosová added.

The results of the survey were announced at a formal banquet, held at Veletržní palác in conjunction with an exhibition by Annie Liebovitz (also in partnership with RadioMobil). Nokia took brand-of-the-year honors by a large margin in all three categories, Low-end, Manager, and Hi-tech. Both Ericsson and Motorola recorded second-place finishes. A jury of experts, consisting of writers for Mobil server and the newcomer Mobility, also awarded a special prize to one additional phone in each category. The winners were the Bosch 608/607 in the Low-end division, the Nokia 6110 in the Manager division, and the Ericsson SH888 in the top division.
