Prague, 22 February 2008 - Previously, when delivering mail, postmen rang at the recipients' doors. Then e‑mail was invented and now T-Mobile has come up with another improvement: With Postm@n, a new service from T‑Mobile, customers can easily access their e-mails directly on their mobile phones. The service is currently being tested by T-Mobile employees and it will be available to customers beginning 1 March 2008.
"E-mail has become a popular means of communication and people use it as a matter of course. Until recently, e-mail was mostly the domain of computer users. But now, thanks to our Postm@n service, it can be easily used on mobile phones," says Martina Kemrová, Senior Head of Corporate Communication at T‑Mobile.
The basic principle of the service is simple. Upon activation, customers can select one or more of their e-mail accounts from which they wish to have e-mails forwarded to their mobile phones. Upon entering the access data related to the selected e-mail inboxes, customers also need to choose the format in which e‑mails should be delivered and the options of the service.
The first option, free receipt of e-mails in the form of standard SMS, makes it possible to forward each new e‑mail's subject and first few lines of content. This replaces a similar feature of the currently offered MobileBox Easy service. The other two options are new, and currently unique, on the Czech market. The "Long SMS" option enables viewing the greater part of the e‑mail's content. If the utilized phone does not support long SMS, text messages can be broken up into sections that can be viewed separately as individual short messages. The MMS option enables receipt of e-mail attachments - pictures, sound files, videos, and PDF, MS Word and Excel documents.
Postm@n is available for the monthly fee of CZK 19 for e-mails received in the form of long SMS, and for CZK 49/month for e-mails received in the form of MMS. The number of messages that can be forwarded to a mobile phone is limited to 400 per day. The service can be activated with all T-Mobile tariff plans, including Twist plans. Replies to all received e-mails can be sent by SMS or MMS, which will be charged according to the customer's tariff plan.
There is a special possibility of accessing e-mail accounts through mobile clients communicating via the POP3 protocol. For customers who have activated the Surf+ or Twist Surf+ data add-ons and are using the Postm@n service with a specific set-up of clients in their phone, all e-mail traffic is free of charge with the exception of attachments. The Surf&Mail+ add-on remains unchanged.
"Text messages have become a common part of our lives. Communication via SMS is easy and effective. Postm@n now enables the same fast and easy mobile access to e-mails," says Martina Kemrová.
Postm@n can be activated and all necessary settings can be administered through the t-zones web or wap interface under My T-Mobile.
