Operating Profit of RadioMobil Increased by 52% in 2001

Prague, 2 April 2002 - The operating profit of RadioMobil increased by 52% last year. While in 2000 the operating profit of the company according to International Accounting Standards reached CZK 3.1 billion, it increased to CZK 4.8 billion in 2001. Net revenues increased year-on-year by 19%, amounting to CZK 21.1 billion. The company invested CZK 14.2 billion last year, which represents an increase by 66% in comparison with 2000.

"The results for 2001 confirm that RadioMobil is a financially strong and successful company. In spite of fierce competition and thanks to efficient operations, we have maintained a high growth rate of revenues, operating and net profit," says Roland Mahler, Managing Director of RadioMobil, adding: "Similarly to previous years, we have continued to invest heavily. Significant financial means were invested in improving the quality of the network and signal coverage, to research and development of new technologies, and to the acquisition of a UMTS license."

Almost a million new customers chose the Paegas services last year. RadioMobil concluded the year 2001 with 2,850,046 active customers. The customer base thus increased year-on-year by 53%, with the highest growth taking place in the last quarter of 2001.

RadioMobil also reported a significant increase in the number of minutes used and SMS messages sent. The amount of minutes used in the Paegas network reached almost 2.5 billion last year, which accounts for a 32% increase compared to 2000. Paegas customers sent almost 950 million SMS messages last year, which is more than double the number of messages sent the year before.

RadioMobil also invested in improving the network quality last year. The Paegas GSM network covers 99% of the Czech population and 99.8% of A class roads. In 2001 alone, the number of base transceiver stations (BTS) increased by 1,027, thus reaching 3,153 at the end of the year.

RadioMobil had 2,479 employees on 31 December 2001, which is 16% more in comparison with the same date of the previous year.
