Prague, 30 May 2019 - Summer is approaching and Czechs are getting ready to go on holiday. Whether going abroad or staying in the Czech Republic, they often travel by car. Thanks to the Smart Car (Chytré auto) service, all users – not only T-Mobile customers – can make their cars smart for a special price from Saturday, 1 June. With the free assistance service and in-car Wi-Fi, they will increase the safety and comfort of all passengers. In June, the operator is offering the device that is necessary with the Smart Car service for just CZK 1.
Smart Car is a service from T-Mobile that can make every car smart thanks to a special device inserted into the OBD port. Within the European Union, the service shares a whole range of information with users, such as vehicle location, battery level, indicative malfunction diagnostics, notification of vehicle towing, vibrations, device removal, departure from a designated area and much more. The device makes information about the vehicle available for users in a mobile phone application and on a dedicated website. The standard price of the device is CZK 3,999; as part of the June offer, customers can purchase it for just CZK 1. They can choose between two tariff plans that differ only in the volume of data while the functionalities are the same. The Smart Car Wi-Fi Standard (Chytré auto WiFi Standard) plan priced at CZK 249 per month includes a 5 GB data allowance; the Wi-Fi Premium version is priced at CZK 499 and includes a 20 GB data allowance. Up to five mobile devices can be simultaneously connected to Wi-Fi, thus helping, for example, to keep the kids entertained on a long trip.
Assistance in the Czech Republic and within the European Union
All customers having difficulties during their travels can rely on the assistance service, which will be provided to them free of charge in connection with their contract or prepaid card. The assistance service worth CZK 1,500 per year is arranged for T-Mobile by ÚAMK (Ústřední auto moto klub, or Central Auto Moto Club), colloquially known as the “Yellow Angels”, both in the Czech Republic and within the European Union. The assistance service includes, among other things, dispatch and work of a mechanic when drivers encounter any problems on the road, vehicle towing in the case of a breakdown, loaning of a replacement vehicle, alternative accommodation or alternative transportation for passengers and a 24/7 info line in Czech and English.
Mechanics most frequently dispatched in Italy and Germany
Since June last year, when the operator started offering the free assistance service with Smart Car, the service has been activated by more than half of the customers. Of the incidents reported so far, 15% occurred abroad. The largest number of service calls were in Italy and Germany, followed by France, Croatia, Hungary, Portugal and Austria. “Within the Czech Republic, we helped drivers in all regions, with the largest number of service calls in Prague and the fewest in Zlín,” says Otakar Mráz, Senior Manager of Consumer IoT HUB, whose team is in charge of introducing the product throughout Europe, adding: “Nearly 30% of failures can be fixed on site. The most frequent defect is electrical failure, with other frequent defects including engine, exhaust system and braking system failures and flat tyres.” The most frequently used services include vehicle towing, roadside service including the work of a mechanic and loaning of a replacement vehicle. The oldest vehicle for which the Yellow Angels provided the service was a 2001 Volkswagen. The most expensive cars whose passengers needed help included a BMW 750i, Lexus LS400 and Mercedes S5000.
