On April 9 2000 premises of the studio Ypsilon will open ceremonially for RadioMobil, the operator of the mobile phone GSM network, to festively welcome famous writers from all over the world. For in the mentioned studio already the tenth year of the prestigious event called Writers´ Festival will take place.
"This is the second time we support the meeting of personalities of the literary world from many countries," the Company´s gazetteer Tereza Kakosová said. "Last year convinced us that events like this one have become an inseparable part of Prague´s cultural life, from which RadioMobil definitely does not want to absent. Furthermore, the Writers´ Festival has one more dimension for us - it allows people from the whole world of literature to meet. For a company mediating global communication to its customers this has really a symbolic meaning."
It has become a tradition for top artists to meet at the Prague Writers´ Festival and this year won´t be an exception. On the day after the Festival opening, on April 10, the famous American writer Susan Sontag will come to Prague on an invitation of the RadioMobil Company. She introduced herself all around the world especially by her sociologic novels, many of which were translated into Czech in the past. Among others these were for instance "Illness As Metaphor", "Against Interpretation", or "Duet for Cannibals".
"For this year´s Writers´ Festival we prepared one surprise for literature fanciers," Tereza Kakosová says. "We are going to introduce the new bestseller from Susan Sontag´s workshop called "In America" in original and among guests there will be personalities such as William Styron - the author of the famous novel Sophie´s Choice."
However, Susan Sontag won´t be the only famous name at the all-week writers´ meeting. Its participants will have the opportunity to meet for example Robert Stone (author of the novel Dog Soldiers), Aharon Appelfeld, Menis Koumandareas or Josef Škvorecký. Of course autograph sessions, readings, talks and international evenings dedicated to literature of a specific country will be all part of the rich all-week programme.
