Prague, 30 October 2006 - More than 15,000 individual visitors to the www.jaXmobilem.cz portal concerning mobile etiquette, launched by T-Mobile this spring in cooperation with the cartoonist Stepan Mares, have viewed more than 300,000 pages. "Like all other products, mobile phones have their limited lifespan as well. For this reason, we added the topic of recycling to the website. In the chapter 'What to do with it' you can now learn why we should recycle mobile phones and how to proceed when your old handset stops working," says Martina Kemrova, T-Mobile's Head of Corporate Communication. T-Mobile has been involved in recycling its customers' mobile phones free of charge since 2005, thus becoming the first mobile network provider in the Czech Republic to offer such a service to clients, who only need to hand over their old and non-functioning handsets at any T-Mobile shop.
T-Mobile launched a new contest today for visitors to the portal which will be concluded at the end of the year. The contestants need to answer the question "What does a mobile phone mean to me". After the conclusion of the contest, an expert jury consisting of Martina Kemrová (Head of Corporate Communication at T-Mobile), Jitka Chocová (Corporate Social Responsibility Manager at T-Mobile), David Polesný (editor-in-chief of www.mobilmania.cz), Michal Hron (editor of www.mobil.cz) and the cartoonist Štěpán Mareš will choose the 300 most original contributions, whose authors will win one of these attractive prices:
The new competition is loosely related to the previous one which accompanied the launch of the website. "We are happy that people are interested in the 'jaXmobilem' project and the topic of mobile etiquette. Moreover, as the first competition demonstrated, they like to share their experiences related to mobile phones with other people as well," says Martina Kemrova. The www.jaXmobilem.cz website also offers illustrations of the Ten Mobile Commandments created by the cartoonist Štěpán Mareš which can be downloaded and used as wallpaper on a PC desktop or sent to friends as an electronic postcard. From the website, people can also order a quality T-shirt with an original illustration by Stepan Mares, who is one of the best-known Czech cartoonists.
The project is part of T-Mobile's programme of corporate social responsibility which also includes, for example, the T-Mobile Fund, which is intended to support local initiatives in the regions where T-Mobile has its offices. Furthermore, T-Mobile organizes an annual charity auction and a volunteer programme for its employees, supports waste recycling on its premises and is the first mobile operator in the market to have enabled customers to hand in their old handsets at Retail Shops for the purpose of ecological disposal.
