Prague, 26 September 2002 â?" Today, RadioMobil introduces the new GPRSpeed and the GPRSpeed Plus services and unveils a new mobile and pocket computer in one, the T-Mobile MDA. GPRSpeed (or GPRSpeed Plus) offers a much higher data transfer via GPRS and decreases the volume of the data transferred. T-Mobile customers are the first and so far the only ones in the Czech Republic to have the possibility of transferring data with an increased user comfort, while achieving considerable cost savings. And the T-Mobile MDA is one of the first devices combining the features of a mobile and a pocket computer, thus being an ideal tool for voice and data communication not only on travels. Thanks to the T-Mobile MDA, customers can not only make phone calls, but also use a whole range of office applications and other features of a mobile and the PDA, including full Internet access, and all this with a single device.
â?śWe have always tried to offer our customers services based on advanced technologies which meet the requirements of even the most demanding users. Now, we are introducing a new service and a new product, which will bring customers an increased user comfort and cost savings.
For example, in comparison to the standard GPRS, GPRSpeed will make Internet access two, even two and a half times faster. Furthermore, customers will be able to transfer twice as much data on average for the same price compared to GPRS. With the new T-Mobile MDA, customers will obtain a mobile and computer in one, with an immediate Internet access without the need of any configuration, because everything has already been set up beforeâ?ť, says JiĹ?í DvorjanÄŤanský, Marketing Director of RadioMobil.
GPRSpeed and GPRSpeed Plus Services
GPRSpeed (or GPRSpeed Plus) is intended for all contract customers who have activated GPRS service. The new service faster Internet access via GPRS. In comparison to the standard GPRS transfer, it is now possible to reach the transmission speed, which is five times higher. GPRSpeed (or GPRSpeed Plus) is based on transparent data compression, and its use brings customers, besides higher transmission speed, considerable cost savings thanks to the decrease of the data transferred.
The customer can select fro two options. GPRSpeed is available to users automatically, without the need to install any type of software on their terminals. To use GPRSpeed, customers only need to select the level of compression when starting the browser. With GPRSpeed, all http traffic, i.e. access to websites, is optimised.
GPRSpeed Plus requires the installation of the client software downloadable free of charge on www.t-mobile.cz/GPRSpeedPlus. The application allows users to set up the compression and bar of various types of content. Compared to the basic GPRSpeed version, a higher level of compression and so an increased transmission speed is reached thanks to the client software. Moreover, GPRSpeed Plus optimises not only website access, but also the traffic using the ftp, pop3 and smtp protocols (support of other applications is also possible and depends on the possibilities of concrete applications).
No activation or monthly fees are charged for the use of the GPRSpeed service (or GPRSpeed Plus). Customers are only charged for the volume of the data transferred via GPRS. The GPRSpeed service (or GPRSpeed Plus) will be available to T-Mobile customers as of 7 October 2002.
T-Mobile MDA (Mobile Digital Assistant)
The new T-Mobile MDA terminal includes Windows Pocket PC 2002 Phone Edition. Besides the features provided by a mobile, customers can fully use the office applications, to which they are accustomed â?" e.g., Word, Excel and Outlook. A built in feature, the Pocket Internet Explorer, allows fast access to the t-zones portal and other Internet and WAP pages via GPRS. The fastest mobile Internet access is ensured by the GPRS Speed proxy feature.
Moreover, the T-Mobile MDA contains many features of an organiser, e.g., a calendar, contacts, tasks and notes, and it offers fast and comfortable data synchronization with a desktop. Multimedia applications allow users to play multimedia games, or listen audio recordings and watch video files. A touch keyboard and handwriting recognition allow users to make notes quickly and comfortably, similarly to an ordinary diary. Furthermore, very important notes can be recorded by a dictaphone and sent, for example by email, as a voice file.
With the T-Mobile MDA, the websites of the most popular Czech portals (Seznam, Atlas, iDNES), which optimised their sites directly for this device, can be browsed. Moreover, an optional type of software, similarly to PC, can be installed into the T-Mobile MDA, e.g., programmes for data collection, location-based applications or games. The T-Mobile MDA will soon offer an application for sending and receiving MMS.
The T-Mobile MDA will be available to customers in the Czech Republic in the course of October 2002 for CZK 20,499 (excl. VAT). Moreover, the T-Mobile MDA users will receive a voucher for Twin card activation for just CZK 1.
