Prague, 18 August 2016 - Three designers from the Czech Republic have registered in the first edition of the international Fashion Fusion Challenge competition organised by Deutsche Telekom. The originators of the ten best concepts from all participating countries who registered in the competition will be given a chance to bring their concepts in the area of high-tech apparel, wearables and digital lifestyle products to life by means of their participation in the Fashion Fusion Lab.
In cooperation with experts and specialists in the areas of innovative fashion and technology, the teams will produce high-quality prototypes of their concepts. The participants will have an opportunity to draw upon the Fashion Fusion Lab’s expertise. They will also be provided accommodation and all the necessary materials they will need to implement their ideas.
“T-Mobile has long presented itself as a major player in technological innovation and the Fashion Fusion project shows another interesting route that innovation can follow,” says Martina Kemrová, T-Mobile’s spokesperson, adding: “We are happy that, with this project, we can reach talented young people from the whole of Europe and give them an opportunity to bring their ideas to life.”
“One of the missions of Czech Design Week is to support independent and Czech design. This is why it is attractive for us to support talented young artists and designers through Fashion Fusion,” says Lukáš Pipek, director of Czech Design Week, explaining the partnership with T-Mobile.
Czech designers at Fashion Fusion
Jana Morávková Minaříková
Jana Minaříková founded her brand in 2009, after completing her fashion design studies at the Technical University of Liberec and a six-month internship at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in Istanbul. Her fashion is wearable in the best meaning of the word: it is atmospheric, well-made prêt-à-porter fashion that brings joy to customers when worn and creates an intimate world of timeless personal luxury. She has put great emphasis on the selection of fabrics. In her collections, she uses materials that were either manufactured in Europe or that provably come from fair-trade manufacturers.
“I have long been thinking about using the energy that is generated in clothes during movement. Therefore, within the Fashion Fusion project I would like to explore the possibilities that magnetic induction could offer in this respect,” says Jana Minaříková. She has registered her “induction trousers” concept in the competition.
Rostislav Bujnošek
Rostislav Bujnošekstudied product design at the Secondary School of Art in Ostrava and now works with his friends at the newly established UNILABEL brand, which is focused primarily on the design of prints on t-shirts, sweatshirts and bags.
The concept that he has registered in the Fashion Fusion competition is a combination of modern technology and a fashion accessory. REMEMBER HATS uniquely combine 360° recording technology with minimalistic simplicity of the design. Wide-angle cameras are placed along the perimeter of the cap and record the surrounding world. The result is a video thanks to which the wearer of the cap will not miss anything.
Vladimír Staněk
Vladimír Staněk is one of the few Czech designers focusing exclusively on men’s fashion, which he has been creating since 2010 under the STINAK brand. He was born in Polanka nad Odrou; after having studied architecture and fashion design at Prague’s Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design, he gained experience also in the United States (Interior Architecture at the Rhode Island School of Design) and the United Kingdom (Graphic media design at the University of the Arts). His work has also attracted the interest of foreign buyers and magazines. In addition to working on collections of apparel and accessories for his own brand, he has been the head designer of men’s collections at Pietro Filipi. Forbes magazine ranked him this year among the 30 most promising Czechs under 30.
“Imagine that you will no longer have to be shy about expressing your feelings, mood or affection. Or just asking a stranger out for a date. You can mirror your personality through your clothes. This, in a nutshell, is FACED, the idea that I registered in Fashion Fusion,” adds Vladimír Staněk.
The public will learn about the outcome of the entire competition and who will have a chance to bring their ideas to life at the Fashion Fusion Lab at the beginning of September.
