Prague, 25 December 2014 – Christmas Eve traffic in the T-Mobile network rose in all parameters again this year; however, the increase was not so pronounced as in the previous year. Overall traffic in the operator’s network wen up by 2.5% as compared with the same date last year. The total number of calls grew by 3% to approximately 18.3 million. Text messages remain the most popular means of expressing one’s Christmas wishes: the SMS centre processed 29.4 million SMS this year, a year-on-year increase by 0.8%. Multimedia messages saw a more significant increase – the MMS centre received 459,000 MMS, which is 14% more than last year. The largest increase against the previous year was reported by overall data traffic, which grew by 24%.
The total number of incoming and outgoing calls reached nearly 18.3 million, which is 3% more than in 2013. Distribution of calls in time remains the same as in previous years: traditionally, the heaviest voice traffic was between 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., when more than 1.9 million calls were made.
The total number of text messages processedby the T-Mobile SMS centre on Christmas Eve increased slightly by 0.8% to 29.4 million. The busiest SMS hour was between 12:45 p.m. and 1:45 p.m., when the SMS centre processed more than 2.7 million messages. During the busiest quarter of an hour from 1:00 p.m. to 1:15 p.m., 689,000 messages were processed.
Multimedia messages (MMS) again increased more than SMS this year: their number exceeded 459,000, which is 14% more than in the previous year. This year, the heaviest MMS traffic was between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., which is three quarters of an hour earlier than in 2013. More than 41,000 multimedia messages sent via mobile handsets, external applications and the internet were processed by the MMS centre during this hour. The multimedia-message peak was recorded between 3:30 p.m. and 3:45 p.m., when the MMS centre received more than 12,000 messages.
