3G score for 2011: 80% of population covered

• Nearly 1,400 transmitters launched within one year
• New 2in1 and 3in1 bundles to save hundreds of crowns

Prague, 12 December 2011 – T-Mobile has made further progress in network expansion. Before the end of the year, it is offering the fastest internet service to 80% of the population of the Czech Republic. Moreover, it is still the only operator to provide HSPA+ technology (up to 21Mbps download) throughout its network. 

“Our aim is to make one of the most modern and fastest versions of 3G networks available to the widest possible range of customers,” says Frank Meywerk, Technology Director at T‑Mobile, and adds: “This involves rather large investments in construction and testing of new technologies. We will definitely continue this trend next year.” 

At the beginning of 2011, the 3G network was available to 37% of the population. In only one year, nearly 1,400 transmitters have been built and put into service. A record 265 base transceiver stations were set up in October. The highest lying one is situated at Boží Dar (elevation: 1,021 m) and the lowest lying transmitter is in Děčín (elevation: 135 m). Sites shared with Telefónica have also contributed to the faster expansion of the 3G network. At the moment, the two operators are sharing 576 (288+288) transmitters, which is 116 (58+58) more than originally planned for 2011. 

Together with expanded coverage, the number of internet users is also increasing proportionally – 1.2 million customers currently use mobile internet. Bundles combining voice and data tariff plans and bringing savings of hundreds of crowns per month are particularly popular. The operator has therefore prepared two more bundles, this time premium ones, with a FUP limit of 30GB. 2v1 s Internetem na cesty Premium (2in1 with Internet for Travelling Premium) combines voice services with the premium data tariff plan enabling maximum possible speed of up to 21.6 Mbps with data volume of 30GB. 3v1 s Internetem na cesty Premium (3in1 with Internet for Travelling Premium) also includes ADSL Standard fixed internet (without a fixed line and without VDSL technology).

The special price applies when concluding a contract for two years. Customers who already have the 2in1 and 3in1 bundles in the Standard version can switch to Premium free of charge.
