Prague, 11 March 2003 - T-Mobile was the only large Czech telecoms operator to record a double-digit increase in its net profit last year. Whereas in 2001 the net profit according to the International Accounting Standards reached CZK 2.5 billion, this figure rose to CZK 2.9 billion in 2002, which represents a year-on-year increase of a remarkable 14 percent. Total revenues reached CZK 21.6 billion, thus increasing by more than 2 percent compared to the previous year (in spite of the regulated decrease in interconnection revenues). EBITDA (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization) rose by 25 percent, from CZK 7.6 to 9.5 billion, and the EBITDA margin increased from 36 percent in 2001 to last year's 44 percent.
"In terms of the results achieved, last year was an excellent year. The T-Mobile brand convinced and, despite fierce competition, it motivated the largest number of customers to choose T-Mobile as their operator. Above all, we are the only big player to record a rising revenue curve and a double-digit net profit increase. I consider the latter to be clear proof of the efficient operation of our company, which can be, besides the remarkable engagement of our employees, to a large extent, attributed to our membership in a global group," says Roland Mahler, Managing Director of the company.
The largest number of new users decided for the T-Mobile services last year. The subscriber base grew by almost 660 thousand year-on-year and the company provided its services to 3,509,593 customers at the end of 2002. Particularly, the company recorded very strong growth in the business segment and T-Mobile's share in this market segment increased by 2.9 percentage points during the period February - December 2002 (according to t-Audit, AISA). Companies such as Skanska, a.s., ČPP Transgas, s.p., Gity, a.s., ING Management Service, s.r.o., IBM ČR, s.r.o., Nowaco Czech Republic, s.r.o., and the Ministry of the Interior became key accounts of T-Mobile last year.
A number of innovative, technologically advanced services introduced by the company last year contributed to the satisfaction of both the existing and new clients. T-Mobile will maintain this trend in 2003.
"This year will be marked by non-voice services. Customers can look forward to a wider range of even more attractive content on the t-zones portal and new MMS-based services. Corporate clients will be offered advanced tailor-made applications based on data transmission via GPRS," says Roland Mahler. Partnership with industry leaders such as Nokia (N-Gage - mobile games), MTV (t-music channel) or Microsoft will be the pillar in the field of mobile data.
