The first European launch of 5G technology in live network operation took place in Germany – this technology is being newly operated in trial mode by Deutsche Telekom on several of its commercial transmitters in the centre of Berlin in cooperation with its supplier, Huawei. The new technology offers connection speeds for one user of up to 2 Gbps in the 3.7 GHz frequency and low latency of 3 ms. The launch of the 5G network implemented in the currently most advanced 3GPP standard in the DT network is an important step forward in the worldwide standardisation of this technology, which still awaits its final form.
The debut of 5G in Berlin was organised by the Research & Trials team from the Czech T-Mobile, which has been implementing similar technically demanding projects for the entire Deutsche Telekom Group. In the past, this team carried out, for example, the world’s first transmission test with the speed of 580 Mbps using LTE-Advanced technology (4x4 MIMO with carrier aggregation of two bands) in the DT network and – again the world’s first – trial operation of the LTE 4x4 MIMO technology in the 800 MHz low-frequency band in T-Mobile Czech Republic’s network in Prague’s Petrovice district.
