The Supervisory Board of the Deutsche Telekom confirms René Obermann as new CEO of Deutsche Telekom

The 43 year-old Mr. Obermann will succeed Kai-Uwe Ricke in this position.

In today's meeting, the Supervisory Board of the Deutsche Telekom has confirmed René Obermann as of November 13, 2006 as the new  CEO of Deutsche Telekom AG. 

Dr. Klaus Zumwinkel, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, said, "René Obermann is a leading figure in the industry with over 20 years of experience in a business that is characterized by rapid technological change and ongoing challenges.  His career has been marked by internationalism, which is most recently seen in his successful  internationalization of T-Mobile.  For Mr. Obermann, customer orientation and service are both high priorities.  At the same time, he will decidedly continue on the line of cost management."

Since November 2002, René Obermann, born in March 1963 in Düsseldorf, Germany, has been the Member of the Board for T-Mobile in the Management Board of T-Mobile and simultaneously CEO of
T-Mobile International AG & CO. KG.  Previously, Mr. Obermann held the position of Board Member responsible for European Operations and Group Synergies.

From April 2000 through March 2002, he was CEO of T-Mobile (T-Mobile Germany).  From April 1998 through March 2000, Mr. Obermann was  Managing Director of Sales of T-Mobile Germany.

After his training as an Industrial Sales Representative at the BMW AG in Munich from 1984 through 1986, René Obermann founded in the same year the commercial enterprise ABC Telekom with its headquarters in Münster, Germany.  Since 1991, he was the managing partner of the successor company, Hutchison Mobilfunk GmbH and was Chairman of the Board and CEO from 1994 until 1998.
