- Paegas GSM network is ready for WAP applications and it is awaiting the launch of handsets sale.
- Web designers will receive tools for optimisation of their pages for WAP.
- RadioMobil has been testing the WAP technology for more than six months.
Paegas GSM network is ready for arrival of first mobile telephones supporting the WAP (Wireless Applications Protocol) standard, which allows GSM mobile telephones to access various information and other services. "This is the latest technology which is still waiting for ETSI standardisation and which can be easily compared to Internet. It is a sort of gateway to various services prepared either by operator or by a third party," indicated Tereza Kakosová, RadioMobils press spokeswoman.
"All important and interesting Internet sites can be accessed from a mobile telephone display with the WAP technology. As soon as final versions of WAP development tools are ready, we will offer them to everyone interested for free. These people will be thus able to optimize their pages for viewing with so called micro-browsers directly on mobile telephone displays," noted Tereza Kakosová.
WAP technology facilitates not only access to various information sources but it also offers new possibilities for utilisation of operator provided services like call diverting, voice mail etc. "Our specialists prepared first functional applications already during the last Autumn. As the launch of sale of mobile telephones supporting WAP is already behind the corner, we are pleased to announce that we are ready to offer several information sources optimised for viewing with mobile telephones immediately at the beginning. This is also the reason for introducing WAP in such advance. Together with Internet contents providers, we want to prepare interesting services and to offer them to our customers so that they can start using them as soon as the telephones come into sale," added Tereza Kakosová.
Choice of services, which can be utilised with WAP, is practically unlimited. Transmission of applications prepared for WAP utilises either SMS or data transmission. "Being the most innovative GSM operator in the world, it is absolutely logical that we permanently monitor the development and that we do our best to offer the most interesting applications to our customers as soon as possible," concluded Tereza Kakosová.
